There is a basic difference between open-source and closed/commercial software which makes open-source fundamentally more geared towards better quality. In open-source projects, publication and correction of bugs is advocated, desired, and always done, BUT in closed/commercial software, bugs are kept confidential and their correction subject to corporate demands. Simple as that.
