Journal flaakmonkey's Journal: Console War: Part 1
In an age of uncertain and fearless dreamers emerged a console that would revolutionize the new
market of gaming. With one competitor up and down. There was a new one in the midst. Would it last or go down in flames. Only time would tell. And as time has showed us that "one" stood and to this day is on the verge of yet another make or break performace.
Back in 1985 when Nintendo bodl entered the console market at the heels of Atari, they had only on thing on their mind, fun. And with the help of great minds like Shigeru Miyamoto to lead the way in game design. Nintendo did just that, have fun. After Game & Watch Galleries success, they decided to go to a console sytle system, as that of soon to be rival Atari.
While attempting to bring their system to the masses, they wanted to offer something more
and something that set them apart form Atri or Intellivision. Why not create a mascot. Not just
a game that defines your image as did Atari with pong. So Miyamoto dug deep and created Mario. It was a success. Strategic and the begging of Platforming games. But most of all it was fun. Anyone could pick up a controller and enjoy some Mario Bros.
Today after tons of success and innovation with new technologies, such as the DS and DS Lite, they are branchng out and putting their reputations on the line again with a new marvel. A spectacle of curiosity and concern. Praise and disbelief. Whatever it is it will define gaming or see the end of the greatest console devolper ever.
The Wii, as it is now known. While it explores new and uncharted waters, it is tested and proven to be worthy for everyone after E3. While it reminds me of old times playing games such as Mario and Zelda. And lesser kknowns like Clash at Demonhead and Lolo's Adventures. It leaves me speechless to see what new tricks the old dog has learned. The adaption of some other console rivals high points, mixed with thier expected selling points only oleaves us to wonder how things will pan out.
One thing is for sure though, FUN will not be sold seperately.
