Newspaper Ad Network Shuns Google, Yahoo, MS 71

Ian Lamont writes "The New York Times, and the Tribune, Gannett, and Hearst companies have launched their own ad network, called QuadrantOne. It will let advertisers place ads on media sites in 27 major markets, and let them target readers by content type, demographic information, and online behavior. Notably absent from the deal: Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft. Both Google and Yahoo have their own ad networks focused on newspapers, but, as the article says, 'if newspapers develop better ways to sell their own online ads, they may not have to share revenue with their Web counterparts such as Yahoo and Google.'"

The problem for the labels with this is that they no longer have any power in the relationship with their retailers. Since Wal-mart became the biggest music retailer, they have total control in the relationship. They only have music to drive people into the store anyway (notice how it's always placed near the expensive electronics?). If Wal-mart dropped their music retail, it wouldn't affect them one bit, but it would be disasterous for the record industry.

I would think that a more effective approach to the cancer problem would be preventitive gene therapy. Since cancer seems to be genetically caused by improper oncogene coding, I would like to believe that the retrovirus (HIV) could be use to correct the genetic problems. I know we're a long way off from this (considering most of the oncogenes have not been properly identified), but I'm sure this will be the future (rather than using HIV to cure AIDs) By the way... oncogenes are those oncogenes control proper cell division (when the oncogenes are messed with, cancer cells result)
