Sony is never the market leader in the DVR arena. Never been to the states, but in japan, Panasonic, Toshiba and Pioneer dominates ~80% of the DVR market. And after all the market in japan is the most competitive in DVR... In fact Panasonic just released a new series of DVR codenamed "DIGA" in Japan. The series range from the low-end of a DVR without HDD(EM50) to one with a whopping(EM90) 160G. Similar models exists under Pioneer and Toshiba make.
