I am an IT manager for a mid sized publishing company and we just replaced our phone system. We looked at both IP based and traditional PBXs. We went with the traditional PBX with an IP gateway. It did not make sense to abandon the investment in phone wiring and complicate our data network at the same time. Keeping the two separate but connected reduces points of failure and allowed us to leverage a very proven technology. The only parts of the install that were difficult were with the IP side of the system. The traditional PBX side went off with out a hitch. The vendors are experienced and the tools are proven. For a company with out a dedicated telcom department and a simple network plan the traditional phone systems made the most sense.

That's really a good idea. Technically, I don't think it would be that hard (digitize the audio as it comes in, burn a single master at the end of the show and then let the CD replicators churn), and I have a feeling that Clear Channel is paying the RIAA their piece, too, so there shouldn't be any legal problems.

Of course, after the $5 beers and $35 t-shirts, most concert-goers are dead broke by the end of the show...

Journal Journal: 6 Degrees of seperation 2

Just exploring this new Friend / Foe thing for the first time. What occurs to me is this - we've got friends & foes, friends of friends & foes of foes. Build a graph of these relations and one might be able to map out evidence for the 6 degrees of seperation hypothesis. Kind of a sociological parallel computing project.

So the moral issues that immediately arise: are my enemy's enemies my friends?
