This is only useful to track a customer's flow through a store to produce a more efficient layout. Sure this might increase sales, but you can't tell what and why they are purchasing what they do.
I've never been canoeing before, but I imagine there must be just a few simple heuristics you have to remember... Yes, don't fall out, and don't hit rocks.
