Comment Prioritize doesn't mean "adequately fund" (Score 0) 338

"Make it bigger" and "do it better" are two very different concepts, and when mapped against political landscape, the best STEM programs map strongly toward staunchly liberal states (and where divergent, like Georgia, Florida, and Texas, are still bastions of minority opinion).

It would appear to me that the problem for modern conservatism isn't liberal arts, it's education in general.

As for gearing higher education toward feeding the workforce rather than enriching society as a whole, let me just say kiss my STEM degree-bearing ass.

Comment Hormonal interference (Score 1) 639

Would it not make more sense to introduce complex subjects *before* hormones begin to dominate behavioral decisions? Algebra 1 is no more complex than reading -- a small set of operational vocabulary, some common syntactical elements, and the grammar of functions - and yet we jump only into reading as soon as we enter primary school.

This is stupid without needing to make it political and reeks of decision by untrained committee. I mean, JFC, the article shares the architect's decision flowchart drawn in marker.

That said, I really like the idea for cross-disciplinary lessons to emphasize real-world math usage and diversified contributors. You're not going to increase non-traditional applicants in STEM if you don't demonstrate a non-homogenous applicability.

I imagine they even went the extra mile and paid an order of magnitude more for marketing than r&d.

I completely agree and will fight to the death for others to share the truth of bleach plus ammonia cures for the common cold -- something Big Hospital and their social media spin doctors do their damnedest to repress. Come on people -- we treat our drinking water with chloramine gases but we can't drink them? Do your research!
