I for one would be first in line for one if there ever was such a protest. I am sure to be the extreme minority, but the benefits of a nuclear power plant far outweigh any of the downsides I could come up with. The job creation at the site would be enough for me to support one coming to my city. A lot of industries are dangerous (ie, chemical plants, oil refineries) and have ways of managing the risk to the local population as well as legislation to prevent unsafe operation of the facility.

Internet Hardware For White-Space Spectrum? 36

g2 in the desert writes "I live in a small rural community in the US Southwest, where broadband service varies from decent but very expensive, to lousy but less expensive. Now that the Federal Communications Commission has approved the use of the soon to be vacated White-Space Spectrum, I'm interested in helping the community build its own local Internet service, providing villagers another choice. Does anyone know what companies will be manufacturing hardware that will be required to utilize this spectrum, and what steps need to be taken in order to be in compliance with any FCC rules and regulations?"

Skin-Based Display Screens From Nanotech Tattoos 200

destinyland writes "Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York is developing flexible nanotubes inserted under the skin to create a handheld display — inside your hand. They wirelessly receive data and display reminders and text messages, and the concept has also been broadened to suggest endlessly programmable digital tattoos, while Netherlands-based Royal Philips Electronics is also exploring the concept of the body as 'a platform for electronics and interactive skin technologies'." That middle link is quite old, but is still loaded with interesting links.

What would you say if a Muslim ran for President, and publicly said that he wanted to pass a law requiring all non-Muslims to pay "tribute", and he wanted to make Sharia Law the national law? Would you say "his religion shouldn't matter?" That would be rather idiotic when his religious beliefs could impact us all in a very big way.

It would not be the religion I would be putting into question as I would have to put into question his policies compared to the constitution (Bill of rights and freedoms in Canada)and would reject any policy that went against those fundamental rights. I believe very strongly in Freedom OF and FROM religion as well as separation of church and state.
