I've been using linux on a dell latitude e7270 for over a year now and my battery lasts more than in windows. The trick is to configure it properly. In arch linux https://wiki.archlinux.org/ind... and I think you can get those in other distros too. With those and the standard battery I get between 5 and 10 hours depending on the workload.

I will continue to use github, gitlab, etc for their free public services in a "mirror/free backup way" and have my root repos with scripts to push everywhere at home, in a old openbsd machine. For private/"paid" stuff just setup your own bsd box/es with the level of security you desire. It's cheaper to have 2-3 arm dildos around with a decent OS, open ssh and git installed than paying, not only cheaper, it's safer and actually private. Setup mirroring abilities with git hooks, forget about stupid web interfaces.
