Here in Vietnam it's the same. But it goes far beyond "just deciding" to insulate your home, even for a new build. It's impossible to buy supplies at local building suppliers, you have to get them from across the country or even import at great expense. And then if you do get the supplies, none of the local builders will know how to properly use them. I've yet to find a local builders who even knows what double glazing is - I've explained so many times that no, you can't just install two panes of glass, you have to get panels filled with gas from a factory. I did finally get a layer of rockwool between the metal roof and paper thin bamboo drop ceiling on one building but it took me a lot of effort. The build cost - both monetary and personal stress - massively balloons to the point where it genuinely is cheaper and easier to just install massive AC units and run them non-stop.

I just upgraded my MSI laptop memory last week, from 16gb to 64gb. When I bought it 3 years ago 16gb was plenty but I've since started to do work on large datasets that requires more memory so I upgraded, cost $200. Installation took me about 10 minutes, one screwdriver, and a guitar pick as a spudger.

I mean, personally I could probably scrape together 1000eur to throw in, and then if you're right, after the deal goes though I'll have 1250eur. Big woop. This is why people complain when a deal is only good for shareholders. Shareholders are a small number of wealthy people, and deserve appropriately minor levels of consideration compared to the huge numbers of mostly non-wealthy people who'll be affected by the deal.
