Comment Apple Where Art Thou? (Score 1) 55

Why canâ(TM)t Apple make their Mac an EZ home server that is the central node for a personal cloud? I want all of my files hosted on iCloud - thatâ(TM)s fine and helpful - but I also want files locally spread across some shared storage aggregate to all of my Apple devices and storage plugged in via USB. Personal, secure and easy cloud. Dunno why Apple canâ(TM)t champion something like this. All of the pieces are there. Furthermore, I want my compute distributed across my home. Apple will be in a unique position to do this from a security perspective and hardware perspective. Itâ(TM)s all the same shit now (ARM and iOS flavor) across the board, and if itâ(TM)s not it soon will be. Why have homogenous hardware architecture if not to leverage it in some networked fashion and reward purchasing more devices? If they just had a mesh WiFi system...

Agreed. Would like to see more tools developed on Appleâ(TM)s end to improve home network storage. Itâ(TM)s fine for Apple to have a âoecloudâ storage service, but it shouldnâ(TM)t forget our home networks. Apple should be more supporting tools that allow people to easily plug in, say a WD Easystore 8Tb external HDD, and then that is on connected to a Mac or iPad at home and that becomes my personal all-in-one cloud alongside apples âoecloudâ. Redundancy and respect for user over sharecropping cloud system. And I want my time machine backups in iCloud - redundancy. Maybe not every little snapshot, but itâ(TM)s a pain in the ass to sync backups manually to a âoecloudâ server.
