Comment I work with these people (Score 0) 42

As someone who works in the medical field, please note that getting input from others and not telling a patient is very common. Drive by consults happen all the time and they are rarely noted in the record (somewhat to save the patient as consults many times the patient would get charged if noted (US)) and it is always the provider making the finial call. If the provider is just hitting the button and following the output then they are the ones a fault for not doing the job they trained for. They may have conformation bias that if what they were thinking matches the AI or following the AI when they don't know what to do as that feels safe, but any providers that I have worked with (Mostly Emergency providers) make the call themselves and will go with what they feel is right even if other sources don't agree with them as they want what is best for the patient in-front of them.

Has anyone even asserted the right not to wear PPE prior to this year?

Currently most states enforce seat belt laws. Police can stop and cite you for not wearing a seat belt - even in Texas. How is this not a violation of the same right?

Yes it is, for many, many years, people have been fighting to not have to wear seat belts, they have lost this fight in almost all areas. Also many people continue to fight again helmet laws for motorcycle riders, again they are losing in many areas, but have held the line on others. At some point if the trend of safety first over rights continues, motorcycle riding will be a thing of the past, driving your own car will be a thing of the past, riding a bike will be a thing of the past, home swimming pools will be a thing of the past, bathtubs will be a thing of the past, etc. The is good reason to fight to have the right to take on a risk for yourself.

Last I knew in the US most places had a time frame that you are supposed to update your address after you move. Many 30 to 60 days. This is only for your permanent address though, so many students leave their home address as their parents house while in college and sometimes for a bit after until they establish themselves.

I hate to say this, but this is not just a pandemic thing. Most businesses, which is what a Medical Center is, have PR team that talk with the media and have employee rule that say you don't talk unless we say its ok. So though the information that he is putting out feels like it of public interest, he knew when taking that it could mean his job. To the hospitals should have more supplies thing that always comes up. Most places have about 48 - 96 hours of normal running supplies, federal suggestions, on site and that is it. Its not just the money, so much as it is the space to store it. Most medical centers, that are not top 10 or major world patient receiving locations, just flat out do not have the space to keep much more than this. All of these products need to be stored in temp and humidity control environments. They have a shelf life, need to tracked, and justified to the bean counters (money is always a factor).

What I see, is the double dip, but I do see some reasoning for it. Standard is no subleasing, that's fine. But there are tenants that are doing it in breach of the lease. Option A (currently the only real option): remove the tenant and start over in filling the space. This costs money and is not optimal, this is why they don't go this way most of the time. What this does is create Option B: allow the subleasing with revenue sharing. As the property owner is taking more risk by trusting that the original lessee is holding the same quality standards as they are in finding the sub-lessee, but does not know for sure, they want protection from the possible additional costs they may incur as a result. There is an Option C in all of this: have both a no sub and a sub agreement, with the sub agreement having a much higher upfront cost to cover the extra risk, but how many people are going to pay the extra without knowing for sure they are going to see money coming in.

I picked yours, but many are making this mistake. Power supply wattage is measured on the AC side not the DC side. So this 100watts at 5v comes out as a few watts or less on the rating. Even if its 100w at 20v we are still talking small add to the rating on the power supplies. This is why finding a 2kw power supply is going to be hard as most home wiring maxes out at 15amps 110volts (US) for the circuit.

The Mice That Didn't Make It 202

Harry writes "For every blockbuster of the mouse world (such as Microsoft and Logitech's big sellers) there have been countless mice that flopped, or never made it to market. Mice shaped like pyramids; mice shaped like Mickey; mice that doubled as numeric keypads or phones. Even one that sat on your steering wheel. I've rounded up some evocative patent drawings on twenty notable examples."

Metallica Guitar Hero Release Has Higher Quality Than CDs 102

Last week Metallica released a new album, Death Magnetic, on traditional CDs as well as downloadable content for Guitar Hero III. Fans quickly noticed that the sound quality on the CD version was noticeably below-par, thanks to the recording studio's decision to sacrifice range for loudness. However, the tracks released for Guitar Hero III made no such sacrifice, as proved by Mastering Engineer Ian Shepherd. NME found an audio clip comparing the two tracks. This comes alongside statements from Activision claiming that Aerosmith's recent venture into Guitar Hero is generating more success for the band than their actual albums.
