Journal eno2001's Journal: Why I Switched Accounts and Stopped Talking Politics 5

After the election happened I realized that no politician in the United States (farce) will ever represent what I believe in. I'm too much of a mix of liberal and conservative ideas and I just can't take a trip away from reality long enough to be a libertarian. I think most people of any political persuasion are unacceptable individuals who don't really think several steps ahead. I am slowly rebuilding my friends list by adding people who I was previously friends with in the other account and it's interestintg to note that many of the old friends just sort of came back on their own. It's also interesting to note that some of my previous friends did friend this account but then dropped the relationship after I began resuming some of my trolling activities on Troll Tuesdays or after I posted a few anti-libertarian comments. Not sure which was really the cause.

But the biggest reason I stopped talking politics is that I've never liked them to begin with. To me they are just a very byzantine system to control people by pitting them against each other. The same goes for religion. I have my own religious beliefs and they are personal. I don't need to go out and witness because frankly I don't care what happens to other people in a religious sense since I can't even guarantee what's going to happen to me. I also hate debating. I've never been very good at it and I find it tedious. (Although it can be fun to troll someone heavily until they just give up arguing. ;P )

Regarding my current politics: Most people think I'm liberal. I probably am fairly liberal. But I can't stand wishy washiness which seems to be rampant within liberal circles. I also think that there are some battles that have no immediate value. Sports mascots for instance. I live in the Cleveland area of Ohio and there is the argument against the Indian logo for the baseball team here that comes up from time to time. I don't think there is any need to eliminate the mascot. Update? Yes. Eliminate? No. Wouldn't it be better to keep the team the "Cleveland Indians" and replace the current caricature logo (which is somewhat of an improvement over the really old one) with an image of a proud and strong native American? The mascot becomes more of an insignia and also a respectful tribute to native Americans. Makes sense to me. But my liberal associates all gripe about how the team needs to be renamed and the image stricken from history. Sorry, but I don't feel that guilt brothers and sisters.

Or another thing that really irked me was our idiot mayor (Jane Campbell) flying a flag over city hall with the generic African American three color flag (Black Red and Green) as soon as she took office. Hmmmm... she's not African American. It wasn't black history month. There was no particular reason for her to fly it other than liberal guilt and trying to say "Yo my homies. I'm down" in her really starched uber-white girl voice. It was a stupid move in my opinion. Look Jane, if you want to be "down" with the inner city black citizens, why don't you start focusing on bringing some business back to downtown Cleveland before the city dies on the operating table? All your hand wringing and emotional appeals are nice but very unproductive. At least our previous mayor (Republican [GASP!] Mike White) managed to keep the city completely out of the dumper. What have you done since you've taken office? Oh that's right... you brought the Gravity Games to Cleveland. And that helps us how? And that flag... oh yeah I forgot about that. That flag really helped a lot of people get things together. Right? RIGHT?

My only real comment regarding the libertarians of Slashdot: Call me when reality gives you a phone call and we'll do lunch sometime.

Yes. I'm a Democrat believe it or not, but I think the party is really be run into the ground by a bunch of wimpy, touchy feely crybabies who don't want to address the real problems around them. Where the Republicans have been swept aside by a mass of flag waving idiots who all think they can get rich quick and have a bigger penis while their SUVs guzzle up the ast of the fuel, the Dems have been reduced to bukkake slurping crossdressing submissives. It's a complete mess out there. I have no reasonable expectations that this country will make it that far into the 21st century without some kind of major political calamity the likes that we haven't seen in over a century. Good god America!!! We need answers and both parties have their thumbs up their asses whilst we prepare to perish a tsunami of self inflicted bullshit. [pant pant pant]

OK. I better stop or I'll start getting all political again. I'm really going to try to be better about keeping my JEs on the topic of computer stuff, occasional trolling outings and a rant or two when I need to vent. Besides the_mad_poster is far better at this than I am. It's no competition there.

Why I Switched Accounts and Stopped Talking Politics

  • Funny - I started this account so that I could [slashdot.org] freely talk about politics.

I think one difference is that I'm not into trolling, and I consider myself good at diffusing tense people - and avoiding idiots altogether. Check my freaks list [slashdot.org].

Haw! You think that's something to brag about? I got lots more! [slashdot.org] ;-)

Though a couple of them I haven't the foggiest who they are -- they just foed me out of the blue, even before having posted much. *shrug*

  • I agree with you on this. I don't see patriots all pissed off about the Patriots. Or Californians about the 49ers - surely a caricature of the early settlers of the state. Any pirates out there irritated by the Raiders and the Buccaneers? Cowboys mad at the Dallas franchise? Yankees? Rangers? Meat packers? Steel workers? Guys named William? People that live on Long Island? Canadians? People that wear white or red socks? Texans? Saints? (I suppose that either Mormons or Catholics could object t
  • I think your comment on today's post about banning municipal WiFi was pretty dead on as politics are concerned. The government and all of its revered pieces of paper is just becoming a circus show where the people with the real power go through the motions of due process. In the modern era, the masses can only be exploited if they are given a show to be convinced that they are "free". But what the hell does that even mean? If power structures in which I have no say are manipulating the system in their favor
    • Exactly. It really disgusts me when I hear people here in the U.S. go on about the "freedom" they supposedly value. What freedom? Sure we are now free from REAL government and instead bow to the wishes of business. It's really a screwed up situation. I remember back when I was in high school in the 80s, I jokingly refered to a corporate feudal system where we are born into, raised by, work for and die according to our corporation's wishes. It's not really much of a joke anymore. There are still pocke
