Comment Will Never Work (Score 2) 341

This is never going to work. Thieves can just turn off the phone until they can get it into a wireless enclosure, such as the one Ramsey's makes. Then you can jailbreak, root, or whatever, whenever you want while the device is in the enclosure. Until standards require authentication of the user, on a device, to a network, and authenticate the network to the device, you are going to have mobile theft. I have proposed solutions for this to numerous entities in the past and have greater with brick walls every time. And this bill is just going to result is a piss-poor implementation of a kill switch that will quickly be circumvented by hackers and will cause more problems than it fixes.

Comment Is it really necessary?? (Score 1) 1774

I am an engineer, and I spend my days building stuff and solving problems, and a belief in evolution has nothing to do with my ability to perform this work. While I certainly believe in the concept of evolution and the FACT that evolution does occur, that does not mean or require that I believe man evolved from apes or any other create or species that has ever existed. Simply because evolution DOES happen in small ways now doesn't mean it DID happen in huge ways thousands to millions of years ago. Nor is a belief that God directed the creation of the Earth in any way contradictory to the theory of evolution. The fact is people are going to believe whatever "feels" right to them, and there's nothing wrong with that. The more intelligent a man, the more convince he should be that he doesn't know anything.

We actually had the gas turned off at our building this winter after the gas company had several pipes burst. Fortunately for me, my office mate has two old Pentium 4 computers that he uses for miscellaneous stuff now and then. That day, they served as very efficient space heaters. While it was 50-55 degrees in the hallways and in most offices, we were a very comfortable 75 degrees. That being the case, I think this should work just fine!

Comment Let Netflix be your guide (Score 1) 655

You can always use the Netflix streaming option to filter your choices. The newest four seasons are currently available via streaming on Netflix, so I'd start there. My wife got me interested in this show and that's where I started. I have to admit, when she makes me watch the old ones, I do often find them cheesy. If you just start with the old ones, I think you won't appreciate them enough to watch them all. However, if you start with the new ones, they will introduce you to most of the classic villains. Once you know them and enjoy them, you'll be interested in understanding their back story. Take for instance the Daleks. Their orignal story is really good, but I enjoyed it as much as I did because I knew them from the newer seasons. I just don't think that the story lines enough will be sufficient to keep your interest given the old special effects. But add in there the desire to understand their origins, and you have motivation to help through the cheesy parts. Just my $.02.
