Comment Lower cost solutions, too (Score 1) 186

I agree with everyone in that Raiser's Edge is an excellent solution. It's very powerful and has a lot of functionality. However, it is pretty pricy. Depending on what you could spend, you should consider checking out this article - http://www.idealware.org/low_cost_donor/download.php - it compares functionality and price for 33 different low cost donor management solutions!

I used to despise marketing as well, but I was (and you are) confusing marketing with advertising. In reality marketing is all about finding the right messages for the right segments of the market which is exactly what Dell has done. I can't imagine that they though this singular strategy would appeal to over 50% of the world's population. This is a targeted effort at a specific group of people who actually will be excited about Della.com.

Is Finding Part Time Work In IT Unrealistic? 396

I like my current job writes "Having worked full-time in IT for the past 12 years, I would really like to work less and focus on other goals and priorities in my life. I asked my current employer and was shot down. It seems like everyone I know in IT works full-time except for entry-level help desk staff. Striking out on my own seems to be the only way to control the ball and chain around my ankle. However, my experience with independent consulting is a 'feast or famine' situation, with work coming all at once, thus making part-time impossible, or the other extreme (which is even more likely). Is part-time work a pipe dream in IT? Maybe a career in toilet cleaning is calling me."

This is obviously just a way for cops to more easily arrest the wrong person. If Suzzy looks like a serial killer in her photo then it will be easier on the conscience to assume she did it, rather than looking elsewhere. If I have learned anything from TV crime shows, happy people never commit crimes!

What Happens To Code From Failed Projects? 225

Idzuna writes "With the somewhat recent announcement of Tabula Rasa shutting down, I have been thinking about what will happen to the Server/Client code. Does it get used as a guide for other projects? Does it get destroyed? Or does it just sit there on a hard drive somewhere in storage? The same question applies to many other failed creations. I know the likelihood of the code being distributed freely is next to nil, as most companies probably recycle code. If a vulnerability was found in old code, it could be applied to other products that the company has released. But wouldn't it help development of different projects if such a resource was available?"
