Submission + - Windows 8: .NET versus HTML5 Metro app development (silicon-news.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Will Microsoft take advantage of .NET's Java-like CIL and allow .NET code to run on Windows 8, or force developers to switch to HTML5 Metro apps instead for porting apps to Windows 8? This article brings up important insights into both paradigm's advantages and disadvantages, and even correlates the options with Microsoft Windows's past NT-era support of MIPS and PPC, as well as Windows CE's way of supporting embedded architectures.

If the websites are hosted on servers in the US, then I concede all rights are essentially lost in regards into what "the man" can do do your stuff - anything goes in the name of homeland paranoia... err, security. But in the mid-90s, even though there were known to be broadcasting hate propaganda and encouraging genocide, countries were worried about the legal issues involved in treading on Rwanda's sovereignty and chose not to jam the transmissions of RTLM radio. These days, the same countries have no problems hacking foreign websites. I'm aware there are some differences (the Hutus weren't targeting Americans), but I guess now that a Patriot Act exists then anything goes... 4chan Declares War On Snow 201

With all the recent hacktivism in the news, Anonymous has decided to take on a new and powerful enemy: snow. On Sunday the group announced that it will "do everything in its power to shut snow down by attacking the Weather Channel and North Face websites, boycotting outerwear, and voting for the sun as Time’s 2010 Person Of The Year." I'm sure there are a lot of people in Minneapolis right now that would wish them luck.

Africa Leads In IPv6 Adoption 122

Ian Lamont writes "The recent news that China will run out of IPv4 addresses in a few years points to slow adoption of IPv6 in some developed countries. Now it turns out that the largest number of networks displaying new IPv6 address blocks are registered through AfriNIC, which services networks in Africa and the Indian Ocean. While AfriNIC has a smaller installed base than other regions, many countries in Africa are showing rapid growth in terms of online connectivity."
