The source of funding for the fossil fuel industry is not private equity. It's all of us. It is everybody that drives a gas/petrol vehicle, heats their home with natural gas, or consumes hydrocarbons in any of the ways that they power our economies. This article is a stupid attempt to cluck and shame entities that provide capital to business that are satisfying a demand that we all help to create.

PE is also one of the largest funders of utility-scale solar and wind projects in the developed and developing world.

Initiatives such as these are often sponsored by industry groups masquerading as consumer activists. ISO, SOC1/SO2/SOX have ostensibly noble goals, but in practice apply a layer of costs and process where they did not previously exist. The result is twofold - it costs more to deliver a capability, and one must have greater resources available to offer such a capability. Both benefit larger providers, such as big corporations.

Nobody is against security, product safety, clean air and water, and so forth. (Well, that's not true - but ALMOST nobody). Unfortunately, special interests have become very skilled at co-opting these themes to capture greater revenue and profit while raising the barrier to competitor entry.

I've heard commercials in which the voice actor sounds like Morgan Freeman but isn't, or sounds like James Earl Jones, but isn't, and similar. So this technology uses ML or similar to perform essentially the same degree of mimicry as one of these impressionists. A human impressionist is, umm, human, of course, but is this really so different? It's legal to emulate the appearance and mannerisms of another person so long as it's not done with the intent or result of representing oneself as that other person, but that doesn't seem to be the standard here.
