Emory University SCCM Server Accidentally Reformats All Computers Campus-wide 564

acidradio writes: "Somehow the SCCM application and image deployment server at Emory University in Atlanta accidentally started to repartition, reformat then install a new image of Windows 7 onto all university-managed computers. By the time this was discovered the SCCM server had managed to repartition and reformat itself. This was likely an accident. But what if it weren't? Could this have shed light on a possibly huge vulnerability in large enterprise organizations that rely heavily on automated software deployment packages like SCCM?"

Really?

Because people of faith like to push their "morality" on others. Believe whatever the fuck you want, just don't tell me what kind of sex I can have in the privacy of my bedroom or what kind of contraception (like that asshole santorum wants to do) we can use. Don't tell two gay adults they can't get married. Don't try to inject non-scientific discourse into science classes to push your creationism agenda. I got into a huge argument with a bible thumper former co-worker a few years ago. While I ended up in a different field I was a bio undergrad so i know a little about the subject. What amazed me was how adamant this guy was about his anti-evolution views while his actual understanding of the theory wasn't even of a 5th grade level.

"What has my faith done to you? What reason do you have to hate it?" -- are you fucking serious? Maybe YOU'VE done nothing wrong. I know there are plenty of people that see and spread the good cherry picked message from religion, but organized religion is a serious problem as far as I'm concerned and is holding back humanity.

Windows Drops Below 90% Market Share 595

ozmanjusri writes "Online market share of the dominant Windows operating system has taken its biggest monthly fall in years to drop below 90%, according to Net Applications Inc. Computerworld reports that Microsoft's flagship product has been steadily losing ground to Mac OS X and Linux, and is at its lowest ebb in the market since 1995. 'Mac OS X... [ended] the month at 8.9%. November was the third month running that Apple's operating system remained above 8%.' The stats show that while some customers are 'upgrading' from XP to Vista, many are jumping ship to Apple, while Linux is also steadily gaining ground. A Net Applications executive suggests the slide may be caused by many of the same factors that caused the fall in Internet Explorer use. 'The more home users who are online, using Macs and Firefox and Safari, the more those shares go up,' he said. November has more weekend days, as well Thanksgiving in the US, a result that emphasizes the importance of corporate sales to Microsoft."
