As Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one."
In this case, the Supreme Court ruled years ago that privacy is a freedom. If you look at what the FBI did to Martin Luther King years ago in their attempts to discredit him, you'll see what happens when you lose your privacy.
If you give government power, eventually, they will abuse it.
