Most cases I just leave them sticking out the back, that is how I moved 2x10x10s, but if it is just a few 2x4x8s then it is not a big deal. Beats paying for delivery.

Yes, having a pickup would be nice, but I don't do that often enough to be driving one everyday. Also when I need to move a 4x8 sheet, it goes on the roof rack.
For a while now I haven't seen a pickup that can lay flat a 4x8, maybe a panel van. Again, I'm an IT guy, not a construction guy. This is why I think the craze of the SUV is just so stupid. The contrived examples "I need to haul a bunch of 2x4s and weeks worth of groceries at the same time" is ridiculous.
If you need to move something large occasionally, just rent the large vehicle. Or get a trailer.

I have moved 2x4s in it, probably 12, more would not fit, they rested on the dash. Since the 2x4s don't take that much space there was lots of space for groceries. The back seat has to be folded down for the 2x4s to fit. I have carried a rear tine tiller in there, so a lots of space.
If you watched that YouTube video then you can see that the driver of the Cadillac SUV couldn't be accused of doing anything dangerous, yet it rolled. This is the problem with all trucks (SUVs) high centre of gravity. Only safe SUVs are electric with the very heavy batteries at the bottom.

Comment Re:funny (Score 1) 405

No way could I move all that in my Golf Wagen/Jetta SportWagen. Definitely need a SUV for that.
At the same time I won't have to worry about how easy it is to roll over a SUV.
Watch the Cadillac SUV in this clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... (in case the link is not right, search 'Motorcyclist kicks car' on YouTube).
On the second thought don't watch it, don't want to shutter your illusion of safety of an SUV.

I suppose you cannot read, since you insisted that the safety features were put into place by manufactures to compete.
Now you are saying that you are against all government regulations.
So you are against regulations that all food sold to customers be safe, after all if people die from eating bad food then the producer will go out of business.
You are against regulations that airplanes are safe to fly, after all few crushes will make Boeing produce safe planes without government intervention.
You are against regulations that eliminated lead from gasoline because a customer could somehow move to a part of a country where there was no fumes from cars.
You think that when somebody is injured in a car accident that would have been less severe if the car was safer that this has no impact on you. After all it is insurance that pays for the care of that person. Guess what, if the insurance company pays then every bodies cost of insurance goes up since the insurance company has to raise prices to cover the higher costs.

I'm sure you won't be able to understand what I wrote, you sound like a libertarian, a one that would fit perfectly in Grafton. https://www.vox.com/policy-and...

Mercedes is a luxury brand, they will add everything possible to the car to entice buyers to pay through the nose.

You seem to live in a dreamworld that automakers put the same stuff in the very expensive cars as they do to the normal people cars.

You totally ignored the comparison between the US and Mexican market cars, so here is a YouTube video that compares the same cars:

Now tell me again that the US cars are better just because of competition and not because of government mandates.

Sorry to disagree with you, if you think crumple zones came because of competition. Just look at the crash testing between identical models made by the same manufacturer. One made for US market and the other for Mexican market. Night and day in survivability. Manufactures will cut cost anywhere they can.

I can give a second example. 2011 US cars had to have a way to worn you of low tire pressure. VW did that by using software analyzing wheel rotation and the only thing that was needed was a reset switch. Canadian cars didn't requiere that feature until 2012. The 2011 US version of the car had this reset switch, Canadian 2011 didn't have it (place for the switch existed). Same car, same software, just a 50cent switch and VW didn't include it until the regulation required it.

Don't forget the mean government banned leaded gas, the poor people who preferred to pollute the environment with lead were so greatly affected.

Majority of people are stupid, how else to you explain the preference for the SUV in today's market. After all people prefer the vehicle that is so much more profitable for the manufacturer. It is less safe, uses more fuel compared to a sedan.

People didn't ask for seat belts, crumple zones, all this came about because of regulation.

So spare me that what people prefer is what government should allow, everywhere people are guided to make the right choice because if you don't the outcome is not good in the long term.

District heating is done by heating water and than distributing it to the district.
You can use the waste heat to pre heat the water that than is fed into the heaters that heat the water. Since the water is now a bit warmer, you need less energy to heat it in the district heating. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.
