Other sites (like Daring Fireball) have noticed that the blacklist is hidden in CoreLocation (an API that uses various means - including GPS - to determine the phone's physical location), so here's how I choose to interpret it...

EvilApp(tm): I'm going to secretly log your geospatial location and travel history (and how many times you've used a public toilet in the last week) using the built-in CoreLocation API and send the information to my creators for their nefarious purposes.

Comment Driving Simulator (Score 5, Interesting) 95

Google should really do a driving simulator based on Google Earth, similar to the flight simulator. You could drive around any city virtually, which would be pretty useful if you wanted to learn the streets of a city you were visiting. I'm sure there are a ton of other possibilities too, which I'll refrain from spelling out in detail since I've played a few too many hours of Grand Theft Auto.

The Recording Industry's Failed Digital Strategy 227

An anonymous reader sends us a link to the Toronto Star, where Michael Geist has a terrific article on how the record labels got the Internet completely wrong. While somewhat specific to Canada, the article' arguments are more broadly applicable. The article links together the misplaced reliance on DRM and the Canadian industry's advocacy for increasing levies on blank media to demonstrate just how wrong-headed this strategy has turned out to be.
