But here is the thing I never get... Why don't people and groups just test the products to make sure they are operating within the documented specs. It isn't that hard to track what traffic is going in and out of the laptop, and where it is going to. We can take a look at all the components and compare them.

It is not that easy. Actually it's hard. Given a general purpose device, like a laptop or a phone, there is really no spec regarding what traffic should be allowed or not allowed.

I don't understand why you think double blind is like security through obscurity. At least in security research, security through obscurity means the process/algorithm is obscured, so that hopefully adversaries could not easily find holes. Yet because it is obscured, the process or algorithm could not be fully examined by the public. The double-blind process in medical research, on the other hand, is well documented. So where does the obscurity come from? Do you mean you don't trust the double-blind process is faithfully followed?

Well said! Accusing your customers being lazy, not clever, not open minded, etc., will never help earn customers. This is true for almost all products, and especially true for desktop OSs, where the customers are expected to be lazy, not clever and not open minded. If your targeting customers are not satisfied, it is always your problem, not theirs. So for those claiming linux is ready for desktops, get over it and admit it is not as good as windows or mac.
