This is a faulty argument. The layman can no more review code destined for a GPC than they can an embedded device. To suggest that there is no opportunity for peer review of other industry members and subject matter experts within the particular development community, but outside of the specific organization responsible for a given project is as ludicrous as to suggest that every single adult in the world is capable of reviewing the design for an automobile to ensure it meets safety standards. My grandmother has never carried out a security audit on Firefox, but yet its track record remains far superior to that of Internet Explorer.
