While I don't disaree with you entirely I do think you should give some thought to what kind of pay you will get. If computers are your pashion you don't need to PhD to become an expert. You need a PhD to convince others perhaps but anyone interested enough can get the experience themselves. people who only go into careers for the "love" of it are often times shocked when they get out of school and find that joe drop out is actaully making more money when you factor in student loans etc. I think you need to think long and hard about all of the issues. Oh and most of your doctors went to med school so they could have the "big house", and certainly almost all of the lawyers did.
