I moved into my house, in San Jose, CA, about 17 years ago and had rahul.net dial up, at 384 kbps. It was a good service but did not keep up. I moved to Pacific Bell DSL about 14 years ago, at about 800 kbps. They changed to AT&T but the service stayed the same. About five years ago I moved to AT&T Uverse at about 3 mbps (best option for my area, which had old lines). They soon changed their policy so that I could then get 6 mbps. They changed their policy again so I now get 12mbps, although practical speed is about 10 mbps. I have not seen proven throttling but I still think it happens. Speed is still pretty good though. In general, I think Uverse internet is great. It costs me about $60/month. Uverse TV sucks. It is minimum $67/month for a bunch of crap so I do not have it. Uverse phone also sucks. $35/month for a phone line. But the wife insists on a home phone line so I still have that. (I want to swtich to some other VOIP provider but I am too lazy. ) In the near future I expect Uverse to require internet owenrs to also buy TV service. At that point I will start shopping. BTW, I have options, sort of: Comcast and Sonic.net DSL. I do not trust Comcast -- I have had bad experience wtih them in the past. I would really like to use Sonic, they seem like a great company, but they only offer 1.5 mbps in my area.

I am looking for an electric car now (I just got solar panels and I want to reduce my driving expenses). But I would never consider the volt. It is $40,000 and its range is only 35 miles. For $5,000 less I can get a leaf that goes 80 miles per charge and for the same price I can get a focus that gets 100 miles per charge.
