The 3rd sentence of the post states that he chose the Mac because it would be "closer" to his intended production environment, which was running linux. -- He chose a Mactop over a Thinkpad (full of chipsets with amazingly good linux support) because he thought it would be "closer" to his linux production environment. He later refers to the godsend of his "ubuntu workstation" for being able to continue getting work done. Clearly this man is so incompetent he believes that a machine can only ever run the OS it comes installed with. -- This man is an incompetent troll and this publicity should only serve to get him dropped from any serious employment. Why the discussion in the comments has gone past how flawed his initial reasoning for choosing mac over thinkpad is beyond my understanding. (Then again I have never understood religious arguments or their amazing endurance)

The article seems confused as to whether it was Twitter or Wikileaks which was pushing for Facebook and Google to ante up. The only corroborating bit of evidence for either is a tweet from Wikileaks on jan 7th asking about Google and Facebook subpoenas. I can't find any statements or releases from Twitter regarding the same.

Fujitsu Readies Lawsuit Over "iPad" Name 367

gyrogeerloose writes "In an event eerily reminiscent of Cisco's suit over Apple's use of the 'iPhone' name, Japanese firm Fujitsu is consulting its attorneys in preparation for going to court over Apple's use of 'iPad' for its latest computing device. Quoted in a New York Times story, Masahiro Yamane, director of Fujitsu's public relations division, said 'It's our understanding that the name is ours.' Fujitsu's application to trademark the iPad name stalled because of an earlier filing by another company and the US Patent and Trademark Office listed Fujitsu's application as abandoned in early 2009, but the company revived its application in June. Apple, which has applied for an international trademark on 'iPad' through a proxy company, has filed a number of requests with the US Patent Office for more time to oppose Fujitsu's application."

Comment Harvesting NXDOMAIN hits (Score 5, Interesting) 131

Evil marketing firms are always looking for ways to improve typo-squatting. Popping a root server's address space is the ultimate in NXDOMAIN (failed to match) lookups as every DNS server on the net that cannot resolve a domain (such as unregistered typo-domains) will go further and further back until it hits a root server. Hence having a root server's NXDOMAIN data is the ultimate in typo-squatting.
