Comment My OS of choice depends on the task at hand (Score 1) 1215

In my house right now I have a NAS which runs a custom Linux install, a Media PC which runs XbmcBuntu, an Android tablet with CM10.1, 2 laptops with Windows 7 and 2 desktops with Windows 7. I generally prefer to use Linux for any device that has a dedicated task where the hardware won't change. I prefer Windows on laptops though due to ACPI as generally it just works better on some of the odd chipsets used. I like Windows on a desktop for a few specific apps and for gaming. Yes I could use a combination of Steam for Linux and Wine to play games but there is a small performance penality in Wine and compatibility issues still. My current plans are to stick with Windows 7 SP1 on my home desktops/laptops until it is no longer supported as I have a burning hatred for Windows 8's Modern UI. Once Windows 7 SP1 is no longer supported I will see what each platform (OS X, Windows and Linux) have to offer and decide what to do from there. If I had to switch tomorrow? I'd probably put Debian on all of my devices.

Honestly I seem to be a bit all over the place OS wise and seem to use what works best for any specific needs I have.... My desktop runs Windows 7 so I can play PC games whenever I want, Wine might be an amazing piece of software but you usually can't match the performance and compatibility of native windows. My Laptop was a Macbook Pro until it had an untimely accident with a glass of water and as a temporary replacement I got a cheap Asus laptop running Windows 7. My HTPC is running Xbmcbuntu and my NAS runs its own customized linux on it. I have an Android Tablet and SmartPhone and plan to stay with Android for the near future. I really could use Linux though on every device I own but the sheer convienance of being able to play any PC game straight out of the box without having to tweak it in Wine or worry that an update might break it (either game or wine update to be specific) is a deal breaker for me. I run very few native apps outside of games and do 90% of my daily computing tasks in a brower. The day that Wine is able to work with any new game released straight out of the box with near native performance is the day I finally say goodbye to windows.

In order to make their deadlines I feel they basically used some very sloppy and undocumented code. As a result they are now going through and polishing up the code, fixing bugs and improving it to work without all sorts of crazy hacks. Why do I feel this is the real reason? Well look at all the stability issues reported for Android on the Xoom. Many people claimed to experience multiple lockups per day with the initial 3.0 release of Honeycomb. Now 3.0.1 is out and while said to be better is still lacking a lot of polish and as some reviews put it "We feel like we are using a pre-production device". If I had to guess? I'd say by the time 3.1 comes out we will see the source code hit AOSP. While I do disagree with Google on their decision to delay the source code release, I am hoping it isn't a long delay.

I highly respect Matt Stone and Trey Parker for doing what they do. I don't always agree with what their shows message is, but I still can usually find humor in it. They make fun of everyone and have said in their own show that its either all ok to be made fun of or none of it is. If you are offended? Don't watch it, it takes a while 2 seconds to change the channel. We as Americans have the right to freedom of speech, not freedom as long it is doesn't offend someone. Personally, I hope to see South Park not only show Muhammad in tonights episode, but also make fun of Revolution Muslim and its' creators.

1) While the article states that the servers are in great shape i dont agree at all. There are still terrible lag issues, server ques and lots of instance crashes and bugs. I was in molten core last night on bleeding hollow and the server crashed 3x on us while we were in there. I was in the AV battleground and it was impossible to caputure a graveyard because the BG was bugged. Will these simple issues ever be fixed? 2) the druid class is the lowest damage class in the entire game by a long shot. We have 1 good talent tree (restoration), 1 alright talent tree (balance) and 1 terrible talent tree (feral). We also have issues with our damage scaling as better and better end games items appear. Even with the posted buffs for our cat form, it still dies in a few hits and has no added chance to dodge or any in combat stuns to make it able to survive even a little more. When will this class be fixed properly? 3) Lots of people are getting bored because of the lack of new content, myself included. 1.7 will finally offer a new instance to go to but there is still a lack of new content thats needs to be addressed. Why not release 2 or 3 new dungons rather than just one at a time. 4) When will there be new graphical features such as weather effects added?
