Submission + - James Bond shooting at Paranal Observatory (eso.org)

dpp writes: Scenes for the next James Bond movie, "Quantum of Solace", are being shot at the Paranal Observatory in the Chilean Atacama Desert, probably the driest place on Earth. This is the home of ESO's "Very Large Telescope" (VLT), a set of four giant 8.2-metre (27-ft) telescopes on a remote 2600-metre (8500-ft) mountaintop in the Mars-like landscape. The Paranal Residencia, where observatory staff live and work, has a unique design with an enclosed tropical garden and pool under a futuristic domed roof — certainly fit for a Bond villain!
