I'll wait untill they make a model that plays hoof noises with active suspension that constantly bounces me around. I would also wish to have to tie my car to a tree after parking to prevent it from driving off. If there are sudden loud noises it should accelerate at full speed in a direction vaguely away from the noise. This is what the people want.

My gas stove is about 30% efficient when boiling a gallon of water in a stainless steel pot... my house has gas heating (80% efficient) / electric heat pump for cooling (c.o.p. of about 3) In the winter the 11kBTU burner heats my house with 100% efficiency so if i left it on constantly i'd save about $0.01 per hour vs. Getting the heat from my furnace (this doesn't factor in the cost of increased cancer risk or respiratory irritation from nitrous oxides however) In the summer i must run the ac to remove the extra 2KW wasted by the burner so the cost for cooking pasta with gas ends up being about 150% that of resitive electric in the summer and under 0% that of electricity in the winter :) (methane is about 1/3 the cost of electricity per KWh delivered to my house) So... in colder climates where homes are heated with natural gas and don't vent the stove fumes or places with unusual energy prices, gas can still be cheaper and/or more efficient*. * health issues can be quite expensive ( i would have to leave my burner on in winter for over 1100 years to pay for $100k of cancer treatment.)

Swiss Bank Has 43-Page Dress Code 212

Tasha26 writes "The HR of Swiss bank UBS AG came up with an innovative 43-page document (French) to establish fashion 'dos' and 'don'ts' in their retail branches. Among the rules are such things as: 'neither sex should allow their underwear to appear,' perhaps Dilbert was a bit ahead of them on that. The document also mentions smells and 'avoid garlic and onion-based dishes.'"

A case fan failure caused my little brother's hdd to fail. You see... my step dad asked me to build a computer for my little brother that would fit in this wooden cabinet he built. This required a small micro atx form factor case which had one 120mm case fan. The computer failed to boot about 1 month before I came home from school. My brother did not turn off the computer during this time and the CASE temperature was 65C (it was painful to hold onto the case) Surprisingly everything but the HDD worked fine.

Why Are Video Game Movies So Awful? 385

An article at CNN discusses why big screen interpretations of video games, even successful ones, often fail to succeed at the box office. Quoting: "The problem with successfully adapting video games into hit Hollywood spin-offs may lie in the way in which stories for both mediums are designed and implemented. Game makers chasing the dream of playing George Lucas or Steven Spielberg will always strive to coax human emotion and convincing drama from increasingly photorealistic virtual elements. The Hollywood machine, in its endless chase for big bucks, can't help but exploit the latest hit interactive outing, often failing to realize it's often a specific gameplay mechanic, psychological meme or technical feature that makes the title so compelling. Both sides may very well continue to look down in disdain on the work that the opposite is doing, which can doom any collaborative efforts. But where the two roads truly diverge is in the way stories are fundamentally told. Films offer a single, linear tale that's open to individual interpretation, whereas games are meant to be experienced differently and in a multitude of ways by every player." On a related note, reader OrangeMonkey11 points out that an 8-minute short has showed up online that appears part of a pitch for a potential Mortal Kombat reboot movie. Mobile Game Trojan Calls the South Pole 195

UgLyPuNk writes with an excerpt from Gamepron.com: "Freeware games can actually cost you more money than their pay-to-play cousins, as mobile gamers in the UK have learned. A 'booby-trapped' version of a popular Windows Mobile game has been sneakily spending their money while they sleep – by dialing phone numbers in the Antarctic behind their backs."

New Estimates Say Earth's Oceans Smaller Than Once Believed 263

Velcroman1 writes with this snippet from Fox News: "Using lead weights and depth sounders, scientists have made surprisingly accurate estimates of the ocean's depths in the past. Now, with satellites and radar, researchers have pinned down a more accurate answer to that age-old query: How deep is the ocean? And how big? As long ago as 1888, John Murray dangled lead weights from a rope off a ship to calculate the ocean's volume — the product of area and mean ocean depth. Using satellite data, researchers from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute set out to more accurately answer that question — and found out that it's 320 million cubic miles. And despite miles-deep abysses like the Mariana Trench, the ocean's mean depth is just 2.29 miles, thanks to the varied and bumpy ocean floor."
