Man Wants to Donate His Heart Before He Dies 456

Gary Phebus wants to donate his heart, lungs, and liver. The problem is he wants to donate them before he dies. Gary was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease, in 2008. Phebus says he'd like to be able to donate his organs before they deteriorate, and doesn't consider his request suicide because he's "dead anyway."

The Walking House 304

What is 10' tall, has six hydraulic legs, and is powered by the wind and solar panels? The prototype pod house built by art collective N55 in Copenhagen, Denmark. With the help of MIT, N55 built the pod over a two-year period at a cost of £30,000. Designers say it provides a solution to the problem of rising water levels as the house can simply walk away from floods. One of the designers says, "This house is not just for travellers but also for anyone interested in a more general way of nomadic living." It won't be long now until the Japanese make Howl's Moving Castle.

Miss Sister 2008 3

Rev. Antonio Rungi, an Italian priest, is organizing an online beauty pageant for nuns to give them more visibility within the Catholic Church and to fight the stereotype that they are all old and dour. Nuns will have a profile including information about their life, vocation and a photograph. It will be up to the nuns whether to pose with the traditional veil or with their heads uncovered. "We are not going to parade nuns in bathing suits, but being ugly is not a requirement for becoming a nun. External beauty is gift from God, and we mustn't hide it." Rungi said. This has to lead to longer lines at the confessional.

Is Kant Right for America? 2

samzenpus writes "Can we support someone who thinks that the human mind is an active originator of experience rather than just a passive recipient of perception?"

Well, no, not exactly. I haven't filled in their silly forum, because after watching them for a couple of years (and pledging support, and entering votes...), it's apparent that no one at CW really pays any attention. I did email Jeremy White directly about the issues, and his response was basically "that's too bad". QB has been listed as "Bronze" since I first looked at there applications forum. Bronze means "it installs and sort of runs". That's not good enough for me for accounting software, so it's useless to me.
