Comment I wish I hadn't upgraded (Score 1) 11

The UI changes are indeed change for the sake of change. Maybe it's optimized for huge phones (after all, it has a "one-handed mode" where it only uses half the screen), but every segment on the screen is bigger. Notifications are very tall now (each one has a leading and trailing blank line), so if you have several, they won't all fit on screen at once.

I wish I had mod points today. This is a 5-worthy informative response. It takes me three or four full afternoons on my riding mower to mange all the leaves that fall on my decent-sized suburban yard. I'm fenced in, so the leaves aren't really going anywhere (and where do people think they go to? The ocean? A lake?). I let them sit one year and it killed much of my grass. As for blowers, I have an electric, and for moving things around in the fall, I have to use it at the beginning of my session, then recharge it while I work elsewhere, then I can blow some more at the end. I do wish I could blow all the leaves I wanted when I wanted.

I quit reading the summary when I got to the explanation that it accelerated on dirt without the usual back end slippage. As if these guys invented 4x4! I wasn't going to bother with the rest of their evaluation, although I do recognize the input of the ignorant as having value in product design, as that describes the typical consumer.

I don't know how closely you follow the news, but battery plants are getting announced all the time, and US manufacturers have pledged... I think they're up to $60B over the subject timeframe into electricfication of their fleets. That's likely to change the capacity to build electric cars 15 years from now.

Comment New user interface will get rid of more! (Score 1) 103

That new user interface on PC that I had to start using today might just chase me off! It's awful in dark mode and funny enough, now it uses the entire width of the screen but just moves the blank space to the middle thirds of the screen. But it's great that they offer "compact mode" which reduces the font size by a point or two.

Comment It was sad. (Score 1) 240

I was there over the holidays. I felt too bad for the remaining employees to take pictures. Shelving units had only two shelves installed; nothing on the floor level, and space between items on those two shelves on a 6 foot tall unit. There were 4 feet of empty vertical space. The areas with the printers and laptops looked like blocks in Detroit; 30% occupied. A lot of the stock appeared to be pull cards to get one from behind the register area; I'd assume they're not fronting the capital to keep that much stock. They had big 6 foot long shelves near the checkout area, one with a variety of sizes of red Fry's reusable bags, one with tan and one with white. Sad to see what they're having to do to try and keep the place looking like it's still a viable retail store. I bought extra stuff just to try to keep them going. :(
