It would be interesting to know exactly how much less gold would go for had it never been used as a value store. Relative to other elements in the same and neighboring groups, gold's uses are relatively limited, so I would imagine substantially.
I don't think gold will ever be mined in space (other than maybe as a byproduct of platinum/palladium mining), but agree the price will be capped at whatever the cost to mine is.
Soon all bitcoin will be mined. Gold never will be.
