Bloodlines uses the same engine that powers Half-Life 2 - the Source engine. Most industry insiders believe that Bloodlines has been ready to ship for quite some time now, but hasn't been released since HL2 didn't ship when it was supposed to. Apparently Valve want the public's first experience with a source engine-powered game to be with Half-Life 2. I guess there's some clause to that effect in the engine licensing contract that Troika signed.
