I like it, but I realize it lacks international appeal. On the terms you (and many others) have suggested I think geek is the best (well I actually think code-pimp is the best, but it's not likely to stick and/or be used that much)

Geek has universal appeal, because most people use it to mean "technically oriented smart person." Thus, we have computer-geeks, car-geeks, etc...

I know the term techie (positive connotation when used by alumni, negative by some others) is sometimes used to refer to alumni from my school. It's also more commonly used for hardware guys, isn't it?

Anyway just rambling...
