Knowledge of the past is important, however, focusing on that which can be affected by our current decisions, i.e., the future is much more vital to an individual, not to mention a nation as a whole.
Culture does not necessarily equate to History. But to call a nation's cultural identity "artificial" indicates a lack of understanding of what that culture is.
