I have a secure, high-tech job of many years like many of the people around here. My family is doing well. We live in a very rural area, and most of our friends are rather poor. Most of our friends are suffering badly. There have been evictions, foreclosures, hunger, untreated medical problems, broken transportation, etc etc. It's getting worse fast. Economic problems always hit the weakest among us first. So often, those people are invisible to most of us. They are there, and they are suffering.
