First Halophile Potatoes Harvested 117

Razgorov Prikazka writes "A Dutch-based company from Groningen is trying to create a potato race that is able to survive in a saline environment. The first test-batch was just harvested (English translation of Dutch original) on the island Texel and seem to be in good shape. The company states that rising sea-levels will create a demand for halophile crops. I do wonder if one still has to put salt on ones potatoes when they are grown in salt water."

It's not totally broken, your problem about slow speeds when copying files over network drives is due to a "feature" of vista that compresses the files before transfer. Unless you have a ridiculously fast computer on a ridiculously slow connection, this is obviously a bad idea but for some reason Microsoft enabled it by default. Go look up how to disable "Remote Differential Compression".

Daughterless genes? This kind of thing seems like something that would be awfully close to being used in humans if it was safe. Seems like just another step in the process of 'designing' a child. The scary thought is i'm sure the demand is already there for these kinds of things, thankfully anything like that in humans would require the gene from birth or at the least some mean genetical manipulation of the embryo.
