Become a Skills-Based Volunteer (Score 1)

What if you could volunteer your skills on a short-term project basis? I’m working to startup a web service called Catchafire that connects professionals who want to volunteer their skills with non-profits and social ventures who need them. Catchafire just finished a pilot program in NYC – I was able volunteer my database design and web development skills then and it was a great experience. I spent three months working some nights and a few hours during the weekend and was able to make a big impact on the nonprofit. A project could be organized into a more intense, shorter commitment like you and your wife envision if that's what fits your schedule. Catchafire is currently working on the beta site (www.catchafire.org) and will accept more volunteer applications soon.
