Anyone see the record snowfall in California?
The mile or more of ice over much of North America and the planet has come and gone many times. The last cycle was about 10,000 / 12,000 years ago.

So far, there have been 623 inches of snow recorded at Bear Valley with more to come. The city is just 17 inches away from surpassing its all-time record of 639 inches set in 1982-83.

The snowpack is getting crazy
With 603 inches of snow, the Central Sierra Snow Lab on Donner Pass is reporting its fifth snowiest winter on record since the lab was built in 1946.

Here’s the record numbers the lab is chasing:
1952, 812 inches of snow

2011, 643 inches of snow
1982, 624 inches of snow

Comment Re:Employees scattered all over (Score -1) 74

One of the employees who had moved to Atlanta several years ago before the virus because his wife wanted to be with her relatives, moved back a few years ago as changes started so he figured it best to be in the office. His reward for that was to be let go after nearly 25 years when the software he handled was replaced by something else and handled by Oracle. He was taking calls when needed and doing many other tasks including training new people, all for naught.

We were told by the new director that "he did not have the job skills needed"

So he was replaced by someone new in Poland making 1/4 the pay who knows next to nothing.
I figure the other 3 will lose their jobs once the company says move back to the office.

It makes no sense as there would be no one in the office but those 2 in the west coast one!! It is just a ploy to replace with lower cost employees.

Comment Employees scattered all over (Score -1) 74

Our office is working from home for nearly 2 years. In that time everyone on the west coast Help Desk left.
2 moved to other states. They were told when the company comes back into the office they would lose their jobs if they did not move back. The manager and supervisor quit as did the remaining 7 for other jobs. The new manager is based in Mexico city and the new supervisor is in Poland.... The east coast Help Desk is mostly intact with just 1 person moving out of state with the same loss of job if they call everyone back to the office.
About half of the Help Desk is from CapGemini temp and they work from home in several eastern states. Never were in the east coast office. A new group is in Poland after replacing the India based dept who all lost their jobs last fall. They lasted just 1 year. The managers above the dept manager are all now from India. All hired within 4 years replacing the higher up positions.

Comment No need for an office (Score -1) 230

I work in a Help Desk. We were based in 2 offices, east and west coasts. We got new management these past 3 years and now work out of our homes since mid March 2020. The manager we had recently quit who was based in the west coast office with 11 people. He also oversaw the east coast office with 16 people. The new manager is based in Mexico and all new hires come from CapGemini working from home. If we went back to the office there would only be 3 of us as others have quit or moved away.

I do not see why we would move back into an office.

Comment Anyone can call up video (Score -1) 107

The police can call up the video stored by say the Ring cameras so I suspect the employees can too at anytime. If you have indoor ones and you are at home I would make sure you have a OFF switch.
I remember a British reality show from the early 2000's where one of the models brought home a older guy.
He looked around and spotted the cameras and when the model left the room he quickly left the building.
She came back and was surprised he left.

Comment Spectrum more then double my speed for free (Score -1) 100

I upgraded my 70mb speed to 200mb with Spectrum here in Chatsworth, CA. on Saturday before Mother's Day. I was paying $50.95 and the upgrade price was $60 + tax. I was told it was going to be 1.5/hrs and I would see the speed increase. After restarting my cable modem, router and pc that evening and Sunday morning the speed was still around 70mbs. I called them up and explained the issue.

I was sent to retention and the guy doubled the speed without any prompt from me to 400mb which I saw while on the call with him. It was 467mb! I was told it was the same $60 price good for 36 months (no contract).

Outside on the telephone pole is ATT fiber line so that may have played a part in it along with it being Mother's Day : )

Comment Manual way (Score -1) 122

At work we have have new managers (4 levels from India) who brought a point system to our jobs. Points given against us if we exceed 10 minute call time, if we are in unavailable mode or making call backs. If we do not answer all questions on a template that takes us more time to fill out slowing us down with most of the template questions not needed. No points for doing our job. It is designed to get rid of full time people so they can hire part time people from Capgemini company.
** Capgemini has over 270,000 employees in over 50 countries, of whom nearly 120,000 are in India.

Comment Bike riders - Tesla would hit them (Score -1) 232

Today I had to swerve a bit as a bike rider decided not to use the 2 lane bike path 5ft away past the curb but instead as they went from the bike path across a road they swerved onto the car lane instead of going straight on to the other side to the bike path. I was in the right lane and had to swerve a bit while hitting the horn. The guy was going to use the gutter as a bike lane. I figure the Tesla would have either hit the bike rider or swerved into the next lane hitting the car there or hit the brakes and the car behind would have hit me. I do not think this AI cannot predict unpredictability.
