"Xilinx XC3S50A" : of course, that's the very low-end line-of-product from Xilinx. Additionally, Spartan 3 is an old generation.

On the other hand, check the price of large, high-speed FPGA from Xilinx's Virtex 6 family : nothing below $1000. Top at $10000.
Ouch.

IMHO, Tabula is targeting the market of large, high-performance, FPGA matrices.

Comment Re:It's basically the same as any other FPGA (Score 1) 108

200Mhz is still a very high frequency for logic mapped on an FPGA. user-compiled logic does not reach this frequency on, let's say, a Xilinx's Virtex 5.

If Tabula can provide the equivalent of 8 FPGA in a single circuit, it will be a huge win for system designer. Multi-FPGA systems have reduced performance because signals must be propagated between FPGAs, via a limited number of IO pads. A PCB integrating a single FPGA (rather than 8 FPGAs) would be cheaper to produce, more compact, while providing better performance.

Consumers should better be interested in the efficiency of the 3D engines, such as CryEngine, UnrealEngine or FrostByte!

In 2007, I bought an ATI HD3570 in order to play Crysis, and it performed perfectly.
Today, Crysis 2 is out, it looks just about the same graphical complexity as Crysis 1, but I am expected to get a new 3D card to play the game in good condition. NO, THANK YOU!

I am fed with the game developers artificially driving the sale of lateset expensive, 3D cards from ATI and nVidia.
It reminds me when Intel and Microsoft allied to push users to get the very latest CPU and twice more RAM to run the new version of Windows.

Want to see a GTX 590 burning because of some shitty nVidia drivers? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRo-1VFMcbc&feature=player_embedded
Now I am wondering who has bad drivers .... ATI, really?
Anyway, I am running Linux most of the time, and nVidia Linux support is really shitty. Sometimes, I am wondering if they still hire software engineers.

I urge people to switch away from FlickR, to other photosharing sites like SmugSmug or others.

IPernity is a community-oriented photo-sharing site, with an interface similar to the original flickr interface.
Here is a Monkeygrease script to automatically import your flickr photos to Ipernity :

I am uploading my new photos to both site, and when Ipernity community is large enough, I will definitely close my Flickr account.

TI OMAP4 includes a full set of features to reduce the power consumption while preserving performance. There is a full hardware framework to preserving power by cutting/reducing clock speed and voltage.
This seems like a huge advantage over Nvidia's Tegra. Tegra seems to be a real power hog, and for the time being it seems to be targeted at tablettes rather than mobile phones.

China's Influence Widens Nobel Peace Prize Boycott 360

c0lo writes "Not only did China decline to attend the upcoming Nobel peace prize ceremony, but urged diplomats in Oslo to stay away from the event warning of 'consequences' if they go. Possibly as a result of this (or on their own decisions), 18 other countries turned down the invitation: Pakistan, Iran, Sudan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Iraq, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Venezuela, the Philippines, Egypt, Ukraine, Cuba and Morocco. Reuters seems to think the 'consequences' are of an economic nature, pointing out that half of the countries with economies that gained global influence during recent times are boycotting the ceremony (with Brazil and India still attending)."

Swedish Court Orders Detention of Wikileaks Founder Assange 298

An anonymous reader writes "Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is likely to be detained for questioning over his alleged connection to a rape case. The Director of Prosecution, Marianne Ny, has requested the District Court of Stockholm to detain Assange, claiming that they have not been able to meet with him to accomplish the interrogations. 'I request the district court of Stockholm to detain Mr Assange in his absence, suspected of rape, sexual molestation and unlawful coercion,' Ny said in a statement."
