Took em long enough.

Can we now finally come to the conclusion religion is not all bad?

Can we now acknowledge some people need belief to help them in hard times? Or just give them direction or purpose?

Can we agree belief is not easily swept aside?

Can we believe that maybe there is a greater power out there?

If we can hopefully those ****ers can understand to value human life? And not fight wars in the name of The One, The True or whatever name is "hip" now. All religions in their purest from teach human live is precious and needs to be respected. ****ing act like it.

Yes I'm looking at you Iran, Israel, Europe, US and every other god-damn place. Just agree to disagree already. there are much more important issues that need solving.

Comment The fact = pay more tax (Score 1) 925

The main reason for future in increase in health care spending is not the uninsured. It is the ageing population. In coming decades a smaller workforce has to pay for everything. Spending will increase significantly. For some info see I.O.U USA.

However there is a way to combat this. A shift in attitude is needed and it won't be easy. Here is my two cents:

People in the US need to pay more taxes. Don't kill me yet, I will explain.

Ever since the Reagan era election slogans have revolved around cutting taxes. This has made paying tax a larger mental burden than it is in most other countries. As the US used to be the land of milk and honey everybody believed that the US should have all basic social commodities usually associated with a industrialized state. The feeling however was that this could be realized without footing the bill. Now it is abundantly clear that nobody picked up the check and instead a needlessly money draining system is in place.

Looking to other industrialized countries with lower or similar GDP spending on health care and a more comprehensive health care system, the difference is obvious. These countries have higher tax rates. In these countries the notion that if you want to enjoy certain benefits like (infrastructure, health care, pensions etc.) they have to be paid for. I'm not saying people like paying tax, but it is not such red flag in front of peoples eyes.

In addition to paying more taxes a major overhaul of the system is needed. The free market principle doesn't have a humanitarian earmark. For services as health care this is sorely needed. As most would agree it is insane if in the US people would die in the streets just because they couldn't afford health care. This does not constitute a wealthy industrialized nation which upholds basic human rights. No sense in preaching freedom as a basic right when other basic rights are neglected.

Enough ranting. For a more eloquent discussion look up some of Jeffrey Sachs's views on the subject.

What i'm trying trying to say is this: Is your life about making money? More money than the idiot who spend two more years in college? If so good luck on your road to happiness. If not then you know the answer.

Okay let's start at the beginning.

New forms of communication have always had an impact on the general population. This includes how their ideals, desires and preferences are shaped. So the political preference of people is subject to change according to the the times. New technologies which facilitate the rapid transfer of any kind of information is sure to have an impact. Does the the term populism ring a bell?

Now for the comments.

Democracy is not solely the first-past-the-post-model. There are many different ways of implementing a democracy. The term represents an idealistic approach to governing a country. the various ways it actually takes form are not represented under the definition democracy. So read up !!! I don't feel like giving a lecture.

Now for my personal preference. I don't particularly like democracy. But in this space and time it is certainly the best mainstream option we have. Furthermore I dare all the "hypocritics" to give a solution instead of bashing. And I don't want to see some technocratic/meritocratic solutions popup where distribution of primary good is equal/"everybody has to be rewarded depending their contribution". Because that is not feasible/ gives an option or describes an system of governing. Also a strong leader which has a firm grasp on the countries affairs and only has the best intentions. This does not constitute a system but an exceptional situation. Lastly any solution which in effect is a form of democracy will be tossed out as the comments suggest democracy is the root of all evil.

So bring it.

He fired is his teams of lawyers and subsequently court appointed lawyers, he refused to recognise the court. Several former serbian army commanders testified against him. Although it's a little grim I recommend watching Zeitgeist:Addendum http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/.

This movie gives an insight in the workings of the global monetary system and gives a reason for the current economic malaise. I'm not an expert on economic issues but at the very least it seems plausible and made me think.

It's a must-see for anyone thinking we as society can do better.
