what really doesn't make sense at all... is recall the Architect revealed to Neo at some point that this was yet another iteration of the matrix (YAIM). The machines had already destroyed zion three or four times prior to this. This is how I at least understood the Architect's monologue in Reloaded. So...
Why are the machines digging new tunnels to Zion? Don't the machines know everything there is to know about Zion already? So when you think about it...Smith doesn't need the access codes to the Zion Mainframe, someone has them already. The "Frenchman"? And why are the machines fighting each other in the Matrix with all of the seemingly petty turf wars? Finally, why are the only "pinches" (EMP) devices on the hover crafts? Damn the humans have shitty military leaders. Why weren't there fifty of them strategically placed throughout Zion?
Oh, the holes. The holes. But I really enjoyed this movie for the visuals no less.
