If you extracted the DNA from your Cherokee Purple, modified it by inserting genes from your San Martino in a way nature could not, they yes, that is a GMO tomato. From WikiPedia: "A genetically modified organism (GMO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques." NOT cross-pollinating which is a naturally occurring process. There is no argument that everything organic is safe. The argument is that some people do not want to consume GMO's. Whether their reason is because of the environmental impacts of over use of pesticides, the "patenting" of our food, nutritional concerns, or any other hosts of reasons, they should have the right to know what foods contain GM ingredients.

The organic standards do not allow any GM ingredients. If it is certified organic it is non-GM.

Agree, don't elect those legislators. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened yet. The only option at this point is to make sure our opinions are clearly voiced to the currently elected legislators. And get a large group of individuals to join and say the same message - so many that the current reps can't ignore it. I'm all for starting over and electing new representatives and voting out all incumbents - but I'm not sure if the majority feels the same way yet.

Instead of just blabbing about the issues with Congress, we need to demand they represent us! We need to constantly hit them with letters, calls, etc., telling them how to do their job. It's as easy as filling out a form on the web. Eventually, they will listen, but not until enough people start telling them how to make decisions that benefit the whole country. Freecycle.org does not allow users to resell, and as difficult as it sounds, they do occasionally find people that re-sell and then ban the from freecycle. Yes, we can go on into excruciating detail about how difficult it would be to ban someone from freecycle, but alas, don't let a few bad apples spoil the joy of providing a tool to a needy family/individual.
