Journal cyranoVR's Journal: GMontag: So now writing a humorous JE is "trolling?" 25

Yeah, I expected a reaction...but to call it a "troll"? Please. I didn't write it for the reaction, but after long, heated debate with MrsVR. I thought some people would find the contents of our discussion funny and *gasp* they did.

Anyway, everyone who enjoyed my LG entry, please do me the small favor of giving this imbecile the "what-not." (For the record, I choose to take him seriously because of the acrid, rude nature of his comments and journal).

And if you took me seriously...feel free to flame away, I can take it.

Thanks,

CVR

PS - Check out my FK Photo Contest research aid.

UPDATE - Yeah, it is possible that he is insulting me in a joking way - not meant to be serious...but if that's the case then, hypocritically enough, his own comment is a troll. Judge for yourself.

GMontag: So now writing a humorous JE is "trolling?"

  • he was being "funny" too. that's how I took it.

never attribute to malice that which can be explained by something something

    or something like that.
  • CVR,

Don't stress too much about GMontag. He's a small, simple person with a limited vocabulary and an unlimited desire to rile up the masses.

    For example,

Just from memory, I think the Lefties in the US shifted to embracing the KKKanadian healthcare system. They seem to be even better at spreading misery to the masses than the UK.

    • wow. now there is an old school /. style presentation of the facts. Bravo!
    • Bottom line, don't put too much importance on his opinion. Remember he's only a conservative, liberal-hating, Bush-is-god, love-it-or-leave-it, hippy basher. ;)

Sometimes I wonder if he is just one of those pathetic types that gets off on pushing people's buttons. After all he is a 2600 member and takes his monkier from Farenheit 451.

Everytime I respond to him I feel like I'm falling for a troll. Especially when it's him accusing me of being a troll. :\
      • I avoid his journals and comments like the pest. If I see "GMontag" somewhere, I read, laugh, and leave him alone.
        Makes my life simpler.....
      • He posts to my journal all the time, and I'm a big liberal -- and a Canadian. I think he's really just a contrarian curmudgeon, or maybe a curmudgeonly contrarian. Maybe he's nice to be because we're both 2600 fans or something, or because my fiance went to school with Emmanuel (ph33r the wrath of Emmanuel!), or something.

That said, he did call me a 'dirty hippie' in my penultimate JE, but he was definitely joking.
    • From time to time I forget how much you rock.

      Thanks for the reminder.

And remember, in your journals, we need LINKS! (You've been forgetting again lately.)

    • Now to be honest, when GMontag posts in his Journal, he is quite clear and concise.

I guess, but have you seen that stuff he writes about wanting to "do tha nasty" with Ann Coulter? *shudder* -dry heave- *shudder*

Not with two ten-foot poles taped together...
  • Look, you had reservations about writing that entry in the first place because you knew it wouldn't win you any popularity contests. I've been pleasantly surprised by the response. People are taking your post humorously, which indicates that they know you are not the kind of person who thinks nothing of attacking others for any reason. You have valid points of view in doubting LadyGuardian's professed gender. Screenname aside, this is not normal behaviour for a pretty, self-confident girl. I'm a third-gene
    • The reason I "flipped out" was because this asshole, "GMontag," and I have a history. Namely, he both ignores my rationale, thought-out comments and then calls me a "flaming troll." Now he has the gall to accuse me of "trolling" LG and assert that I "snotted up" his journal. Fuck him.
    • Screenname aside, this is not normal behaviour for a pretty, self-confident girl.

So what is? And define her behavior that you find so abnormal. Enjoying attention on her looks, or perhaps her exhibitionist nature. Perhaps you seem to have forgotten that she is a performer. Or perhaps you are just jealous that she is voted the sexiest, who knows.

Life is risky and no sane woman invites additional personal danger. If a woman is genuinely pretty and buxom, she has all the real life attention she could h
      • All that I have to say is, MrsVR has a very New York additude towards this. And for the most part, being a born and bred New Yorker raised by born and bred New Yorkers, I have to agree with her.

There are just certain things you don't do to bring attention to yourself if you're female. Don't wear flashy jewelry on the subway, don't walk alone late at night, don't fumble outside your door getting keys (have them ready beforehand), etc..

          • The funny thing is these attitudes may not even be justified among New Yorkers. If you look at the FBI crime rates New York is pretty safe these days with lower crime rates than some cities that are perceived as "safe".

Emphasis on these days. The preceding 30+ years (e.g. pre-guiliani) weren't that great.

Never was the adage truer: "better safe than sorry."

I doubt in most of NYC it was ever that bad even at it's worst. From the reports I've seen the crime was mostly concentrated in certain neighborhoods. This is true of most cities with high crime rates. If you stay out of those neighborhoods you rarely have a problem.

Of course if NYC really wanted to lower the crime rate even further they'd legalize concealed carry. G
              • It's not just about the crime rate. Living here for a few years or decades do not make a New Yorker. Every born and bred New Yorker is alert, aware, and ready for anything. Stuff happens here that I've never seen anywhere else in the country. Unreported stuff. And when it happens, you'd better be ready to think on your feet and make smart decisions. This ranges from verbal attacks (everyone here curses like a stevedore, including me. I hear "fuck" and "shit" at least several times a day at my job, especial
      • Just face it, you don't know what the fuck you are talking about.

My good man, I challenge you to a DEW-ell. <-- snobby englishman voice

        En Garde!

        • My good man, I challenge you to a DEW-ell.
          I loathe the English.

Why can't she defend the accusations she made against LG? Your post was seemingly written in obvious jest, hers was written with malice. As someone who knows LG very well, I don't take kindly to people talking shit about my friends.
          • Your post was seemingly written in obvious jest, hers was written with malice.

"Many a truth is said in jest." Or something like that.

Knowing MrsVR very personally, I can assure you that her post did not intend "malice." Think more along the lines of "keeping it real in the 'hood."

Anyway, you should really read AntiFreeze's analysis - it is dead on. MrsVR has a very "New Yorker" attitude about this. Being from the midwest myself, it took some getting used to.

            • Anyway, I think there will be a sort of satisfying irony to this whole incident once the answers to the photo contest are revealed. Let's just say that you two are now "even" as far as I'm concerned, shall we? ;)

Fair nuff. This is why I live as far away from New York as possible ;)

And how. The East Coast is populated by space aliens.

For whatever reason I don't have culture clash problems with people from New England as badly, but I doubt I will ever truely understand that strip between DC and New York.

                  • And they call it "fly-over country" for a reason

I include DC and NYC in that, they are the worst of the lot.

The biggest problem with DC is they assume the rest of the country outside the Beltway is just like the part inside the Beltway and that the rest of us are even paying attention or give a damn.

NYC's problem is simliar, they assume they are the center of the Universe.

No, "fly-over country" is what we call everything between the two coasts (NYC/DC/Boston and LA/San Francisco) i.e. the "Midwest."

The term originates from the fact that the only time you see "flyover country" is while you're flying over it going back an forth between the coasts. Otherwise, nothing important worth mentioning.
