Journal cyranoVR's Journal: Fencing Results 2

Well, I'm back. I was too exhausted to write a JE about my trip earlier, so I'll just sum up by saying I was successful - I improved upon my result from last year and raised my level of fencing. I didn't win the whole thing, but I am happy with how I did and eager to start training for the next one.

I lost my last bout by one point though. I'm going to be reliving that one for a while. Dammit.

MrsVR did well, too. She actually beat a fencer in an elimination match that knocked her out at an NAC last year, and then had a legitiment chance at making the final-8. That's pretty big for her. Plus it far exceeded my expectations for her, as she has only had time to train once or twice a week on average for the past year.

For the first time, I am feeling justified in my self-confidence. The reason for this increased confidence is that many people, including my coach, had a positive impression of my fencing on Saturday. One of my teammates told me that they "really believed" I was going to make the final. I'm the sort of person that needs approval from others, so the accolades I received from my performance are a big plus. For the first time I legitimately feel like I am good enough to be in the top 10 of the national rankings...and that I belong in the finals. Before I just wanted to be there - like everybody else does- but now I really feel that I belong.

By the way, Colubmus Ohio is the birthplace of Wendy's, so I got to eat lots of Big Bacon Classics. I don't normally eat junk food like that, but I figured it would be higher quality because of the location. And they were indeed good burgers.

  • Congrats on doing well. Good to see it is paying off for you.

The bit about needing positive reinforcement from others is indeed true. I am like that as well. I don't necessarily always get it, so it's really nice when others take the time to say so.

Congrats to Mrs VR as well on her job well done.
