Someone needs to drop the kid off at school and pick him up in the afternoon.

It is so refreshing to hear someone who is concerned about "the kid" rather then "the deadline."
I'm single parent myself. I work full-time, in school part-time, and mother all-the-time.
I have even taken jobs in the past that are below my standards of pay, benefits or nowhere near the field I would like to have worked in. But it all pays off when you see your kid off to school or be able to make the school play when he/she is a the tree.

Not sure what to do, may wind up filing unemployment, which I've never done before.

Those are some pretty desperate words and I don't think that would happen. I hope you and your partner have talked over these concerns you are having. When it comes between the career and raising a family, it can become pretty hairy but not impossible.

As for jobs, there are plenty...too bad not everyone can work in the fields they desire or deserve.
