Comment Do you want to kill the theater experience? (Score 1) 102

Even w/ all the "Silence is Golden" and "Turn off your cell phone", Any more w/ more than 20 people there is that one jack-a-lope who can't make it 180 mins w/ ingesting or responding to the outside world... And usually has their brightness setting set to "Full Sun Burst".

This is how you kill the struggling movie theater experience.

Not really an IP issue... Whether their IP is on your device or theirs you still have "easy" access to it. Security is still the same for either for the most part.

The only real issue is support. To do BYOD you either need to specify EXACTLY what people can or can't use or your employee's have to be smart enough to understand the difference between getting their mail via OWA/ActiveSync vs. IMAP, What features in M$ Word don't work in Libre Office, AD vs LDAP w/ Kerberos, etc.

Switched from Linux to Mac's only about 5 years ago, mostly cause that was when I could afford to go Mac. Don't miss Linux and I have not had any major issues w/ getting OSX to work as I want it too. Still don't find the iOS'ification of the OSX all that bad since the "old" ways are still mostly there.

Mostly my job is doing project work and System Admin, so really as long as I have command line ssh, cssh and a web browser I am good.

My only real gripes at the moment are:

- lack of 32-bit Java or a 64-bit version of Chrome

- Can't customize the UI

- Have to wait for some games to be released

- Discontinued MBP 17" :(

Other than that, Meh, I will stick w/ OSX for now.

What difference does it make if they include physical media or not? Dell and other "PC" vendor's don't ship their systems w/ restore disk's anyways. Also, I am one of those guys ppl call or get referred too to fix home systems. 9 times out of 10 most ppl don't have/can't find the install media or they got the system from a surplus sale at their or family members work. The only way they are going to get an OS installed is if they find someone like me who works for cheap or free beer.

So far the only new thing I see is someone selling an OS upgrade for a reasonable price.

I don't think you have ever played FF10 or FF11 since they are completely different games. That would be like comparing Resident Evil to World of Warcraft.

You should of just stopped at M$ Office... Or just start using OpenOffice for "free" since it is more compatible w/ current formats than a 13yr old version of M$ Office.

PS - I only rant cause you disrespect a part of my childhood w/ your Nick and the stupidity of your post.

The Real 'Stuff White People Like' 286

Here's an interesting and funny look at 526,000 OkCupid users, divided into groups by race and gender and all the the things each groups says it likes or is interested in. While it is far from being definitive, the groupings give a glimpse of what makes each culture unique. According to the results, white men like nothing better than Tom Clancy, Van Halen, and golfing.
