Speaking as a Solaris admin myself I would like to state this isn't completely accurate.
Not all Solaris software runs on all other machines.
Lot of applications are based on arch of the machine.
Hence if it's a Sun4u it'll work on any sun4u workstation. Not all sun4m applications will work on a sun4u.
