The only one that does sound like an instrument is called "sosumi". As for /. and the Apple logo, it is fair-use. /. is writing (or allowing) editorial comment and debate about Apple. It is the same as a newspaper using the logo in a story about Apple. If /. were to use the Apple logo in a marketing campaign, Apple would have a case.
