Aynway, there are some good technical reasons why twisted pair-based broadband access tends to work better with assymetric speeds. There is a strong component of crosstalk close at the CO, where the cable bundle is thicker. At this point the upstream signal is relatively weaker than the downstream. As you move closer to the customer, you have the opposite effect, but with an important distinction - there are fewer signals travelling over the same cable.There is absolutely no technical reason for the upload bandwidth to be so limited, but it is. And of course that means makes things file sharing harder.
That's not to say that most of your argument is ok, though. But as goes by the saying, "dont explain by malice what can be adequately explained by stupidity". I don't think that there is a hidden agenda to justify assymetric services; the fact is that they just don't get it.
